Laser Hair Removal

Is laser hair removal painful?

People have compared it to a warm rubber band snapping against the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has very little discomfort. Everyone's pain tolerance is different but most people would describe it as manageable.

LASER stands for Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Should I be worried about "radiation" to my skin?

No. There are two basic types of radiation, (1) Non-ionizing radiation, and (2) Ionizing radiation. Hair removal lasers produce "non-ionizing" radiation which is simply the radiation of light, and is FDA approved for your skin. Ionizing radiation which represents x-rays, ultra-violet and nuclear radiation is a completely different type of radiation, and is not produced by hair removal lasers.

What are the risks of laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is a lunch time procedure. There is no recovery time. Patients can return to work or play immediately. These lasers do not remove skin, so the risks are very low. As with any procedure, we have an informed consent that explains all the possible risks.

Why is laser the treatment of choice for hair removal?

Lasers remove hair for good, giving you a long-lasting, even permanent result.  In only a few treatments (most laser companies recommend six to eight to get clearance) we can clear your skin of the unwanted hair that has bothered you for so long.

Traditional hair removal methods, such as waxing, shaving, depilatory creamsplucking/tweezing, sugaring, and stringing provide only temporary results — some for fewer than 24 hours.

How does laser remove hair?

Hair removal lasers emit a light at a specific wavelength that is known to be absorbed by the pigment (color) in the hair follicle — without damaging the surrounding skin. The light is converted to heat energy, which in turns disables the hair follicle so that it will not produce another hair.

What should I avoid after Botox®?

Don't touch your skin where the Botox® was injected. Avoid rubbing and massaging the treated area for 24 hours because you don't want to make the Botox® spread to other unintended muscles. Refrain from strenuous physical activity. Avoid consuming large amounts of alcohol. Don’t get facials, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, etc. for 24 hours. If you get a Botox® bruise, topical Vitamin K and arnica can help. Or you can get an IPL laser treatment to make the bruising go away faster. Green or yellow concealers can also help cover up the bruises.
